Move with less stress through an app that matches you to moving services based on your preferences

Moover

ā“ When was the last time you moved to a new home? What was that experience like?

šŸ˜° Moving is considered to be one of lifeā€™s most stressful events. It involves a significant upheaval in routine, the logistics of packing and unpacking, and the emotional challenges of adjusting to a new environment.

šŸ˜µ Studies have ranked moving among the top stressors, often placing it alongside major life events like divorce, job loss, and illness.

Moover is a mobile-first product that helps renters to find and book movers. Users can create a Moover Profile to enter their preferences and needs regarding their move, and they will be matched to recommended moving companies.

It is common for renters in the Boston, MA area to move every few years. When moving, they are required to balance various tasks and take on a complicated ā€œto-do listā€, including finding and booking a reliable moving company. There are hundreds of moving companies all over the area, and it is difficult to know who to choose.

Discovery Phase šŸ”

Discovery Phase šŸ”

I first wanted to understand the current market for moving services, as well as what the pain points were for renters who are moving.

I first completed a competitive analysis then learned from user interviews.

Key Insights from User Research:

Emotional rollercoaster: The moving process evokes strong negative emotions like stress, anxiety, worry, and overwhelm, with excitement being the only positive feeling mentioned.

Paralysis of choice: Users feel overwhelmed by the abundance of moving companies, making it difficult to find the right one.

Now that I had a better understanding of the market and user pain points, I created user personas and mapped out the layout and structure of my app.

How might we streamline the moving process for Boston renters?

I needed to figure out how to create a product that helps renters to compare moving services, choose from a plethora of options (aka deal with the ā€œparadox of choiceā€), and remember all the logistics of a move. I brainstormed solutions and created a feature roadmap to guide my design priorities, a site map, and user and task flows.

For the MVP, I chose to focus on creating a user profile and browsing and booking one of your matches. This was to prioritized a catered and personalized experience for users.

Also of note at this point in the process, I decided I wanted to name my product ā€œMooverā€, a fun solution intended to appeal to a younger audience, as younger folks make up a large demographic of renters. I had a plan to incorporate a cow into the branding.

Bring it to Life āœØ

Bring it to Life āœØ

Prepared with insights from user interviews and a well-defined user flow, I embarked on creating the high-fidelity screens that would bring Moover to life. Here are some highlights from the final iteration of the app:

Users are welcomed to the app and asked to log in or sign up for Moover.

Users create a Moover profile, which collects their contact information, services they need (reserve a truck, packing/unpacking help, and moving help), their price range, and their move date.

Once their profile is complete, they are matched to moving services according to their profile details. They can then browse their match feed, then save and book their matches.

They can view their saved matches and once they are ready, choose who they would like to book.

Each moving company has their own profile page which includes a short bio, their price rating, reviews, and services they offer. This provides a centralizes location for all of the essential information movers need.

Users fill out a booking form to add Moovers to their cart, then check out. From there, the moving companies reach out to them directly.
